I left Brisbane, Queensland, Australia at 11:30am yesterday morning. Two flights later, I’m in Doha, Qatar…a place I never really meant to go.
I arrived in Doha this morning at 4:30am, after an 11 hour Qatar Airways flight from Perth, Australia. Great airline by the way. I’m still on my way to Baku, Azerbaijan. When I noticed I had an 8 hour layover, I decided to leave the Doha airport for 2 reasons:
1. I wanted a Qatar passport stamp
2. I’m getting loopy
I purchased a $35 Qatari visa at the immigration counter. Free wifi was immediately available in the arrivals terminal. I looked to see if there were any Uber drivers in Doha. Probably not, right? To my surprise, there were! Uber is in Qatar! I booked a ride to the beachfront Four Seasons Hotel in The Corniche area and am enjoying one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had!
I’m dining in a gorgeous outdoor patio, in perfect weather, watching the day come to life. My server is from Nepal and is a total gem! I can see the blue Persian Gulf sparkling in the distance. There’s a slight breeze, and the international cuisine is world class. At this point, I’m not even sure how many coffees, lattes, or fresh juice drinks I’ve had. They just keep coming! I’m currently working on a blood red watermelon-grapefruit drink.
FUN FACT: 3 in 4 Qatari residents are foreign born
The view is too beautiful to put into words, so here are a few pictures from the Four Seasons Hotel Doha outdoor dining patio and gardens. I hope you enjoy them as much as I am!
