The XXX Series – White Shadow Films

Last year, my favorite ex-porn star friend Crissy Moran shot this television mini-series with producer Andrew Douglas and his team at White Shadow Films.

White Shadow Films, based in Brisbane, Australia, spent months on the road, interviewing ex porn producers, actors, and activists in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Spending the day on set with Andrew Douglas and crew inspired me.

Since accidentally discovering “sex work” (human trafficking, sex trafficking, sex tourism) in Thailand and Cambodia in 2003, I’ve spent a fair share of time with porn consumers and content creators. No doubt, it’s a touchy subject. Men and women who use porn typically go to great efforts to hide it. Most “porn stars” would also rather not have their parents, aunts, uncles, or cousins in elementary school back in whatever small town they moved from, know what they’re really doing in Hollywood.

Why? Shame.

“a feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior.” – dictionary.com

Let’s be honest. We’ve all been there. And nobody likes it. Maybe it was porn…or…maybe it was sneaking into the kitchen, secretly eating an entire box of Oreos, then hiding it under other trash in the trash bin. Or was that just me? Talking about issues – that result in feelings of shame – is like handling a crystal vase – things aren’t going to end well if it’s not handled properly.

Andrew Douglas and crew (all men) know how to handle “the crystal vase.”

While interviewing Crissy, they only expressed kindness, honor and respect. They even went so far as to have Karen Covell, founder of the Hollywood Prayer Network and respected leader within Hollywood’s Christian faith community, ask their interview questions.

I know the lifestyle Crissy left behind. Do I Google her to really know? Of course not. That person isn’t the real Crissy. It never was. The Crissy I know is a gentle, soft-spoken introvert who says “ya’ll” and smiles with her eyes. Because Crissy is my friend, I want her to be handled like the crystal vase. Through her website, we receive countless interview requests, speaking invitations, and all sorts of other generous offers. Do they all know how to handle “the crystal vase”? No.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to meet up with Andrew Douglas at Hatch & Co., a beautiful outdoor venue in Garden City, and found out what’s on the horizon for The XXX Series. I’m pumped!

I once heard that “if you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything,” and I have to say, I respect the stand White Shadow Films is taking.

From the initial interviews through the final cuts, they’ve honored “the crystal vase” and, through The XXX Series, are inspiring others to do the same.
